Double Trouble Protein Smoothies

Mandi’s “Wanna Be” Chocolate Shake (High Protein Smoothie)

I sort of have this major sweet-tooth issue. It’s followed me around my entire life–those of you who scour around the kitchen in the mornings and end up grabbing a handful of chocolate chips know EXACTLY what I’m talking about. After deciding chocolate chips weren’t totally going to cut it for a nutritious breakfast, I decided I was going to have to find a happy medium somewhere. And THAT, my friends, is when I discovered the beauty of chocolate protein shakes!

Now hear me out, this is not the type of protein shake that literally tastes like a scoop of protein powder. I went from choking down what tasted like bitter chocolate milk to complete summer bliss in a thick, creamy, straight-up, “I just went to my local burger place and picked up a chocolate shake,” kind of shake. This is literally a life changer!

Whether you’re powering up with protein for a quick breakfast, downing as a post-workout recovery drink, or just sipping on one throughout the day; this shake will satisfy your chocolate craving, and basically turn you into the happiest human on the planet…

Mandi's “Wanna Be” Chocolate Shake (High Protein Smoothie)

Ingredients

  • Ingredients:
  • 3-4 Large Ice Cubes
  • 1 Cup + 1/4 Cup if needed Almond Milk I like Califia Farms ‘Unsweetened Toasted Coconut Almond Milk’- mainly because of the freakin cute packaging! Any other type of milk will also work as a replacement.
  • 3 Large fresh strawberries
  • 1 ½ Frozen Bananas *I peel slightly browned bananas in bulk and half them into freezer bags for easy access.
  • Cup Creamy Natural Peanut Butter
  • 1 Scoop Chocolate Protein Powder *my favorites are Chocolate Shakeologyand Ideal Shake powders

Instructions

  1. Blend together ice cubes, almond milk, strawberries, frozen bananas, creamy peanut butter, and scoop of protein powder in blender until smooth. If the shake is too thick for your blender, add additional almond milk until it reaches desired consistency. Transfer to your favorite cup, glass, or on-the-go water bottle-- insert straw, and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

*I blend in this order for optimal efficiency. Otherwise you may be shaking, stirring, and hitting your blender more than necessary.*

Hailey’s Blueberry Chocolate Protein Smoothie

I’ll admit it…I have a blueberry obsession. I’m literally Veruca Salt during the blessed season that produces these juicy, tart berries. I drink this smoothie every day, and my recipe is the result of trying to incorporate blueberries into every meal this summer while they were flowing through my kitchen in abundance. Not only does it pack a powerful post-workout protein punch, but is also delicious as a breakfast on its own or an afternoon pick me up. It keeps you satisfied and feeling energized for hours!

This smoothie is a simple variation of our favorite chocolate milkshake smoothie Mandi and I drink daily, and a fun way to switch things up with some fresh summer produce. I also sometimes add some extra banana and blueberries to thicken it up and eat it as a bowl, topped with granola, sliced bananas, coconut and cacao nibs. Either way, you’re going to be a happy little blueberry rolling around your house after you’re refreshed by this drink!
